UUM Inks MoU With Japan's Soy & World Inc.

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) continues to strengthen the international ties with Japan when it inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Japanese world-renowned company, Soy & World Inc. at EDC-UUM, yesterday.

At the MoU Signing Ceremony, UUM was represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, while the Soy & World Inc. was represented by the Chief Executive Officer, Daisaku Misaka.

Prof Mohamed Mustafa was very delighted to enter into this MoU with the Soy & World Inc., as it became the first ever Japanese industry to cooperate with UUM.

The MoU covers joint collaboration in industrial knowledge and sharing of resources between the university and the industry. It includes research, consultation, industry training and exchange of idea purposes.

"UUM have been collaborating with Soy & World Inc. for the last one year, in which the latest progress of this collaborative effort saw the UUM School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML) received a research grant to conduct a study on health benefits of a product, called 'MotherSoya', produced by the Soy & World Inc.

"I am confident that with the cooperation and the expertise amongst our academics, we will be able to conduct researches, for which I am deeply grateful for STML to receive its first research grant from abroad, especially from Japan," he said.

Additionally, the CEO of the Soy & World Inc., Daisaku Misaka hoped that the MoU signing will benefit both UUM and the industry, particularly in research and product innovation, and operation improvements.

In view of that, the Soy & World Inc. agreed to provide a research funds amounting to RM30, 000 for that purpose.

The signing ceremony was also attended by UUM Bursar, Amron Man; Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM College of Business (UUM COB), Prof. Dr. Rushami Zien Yusoff; Dean of STML, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shahimi Mohtar and UUM officials.

UUM-PKT Logistics Collaboration Establishes Graduand And Industry Relationship

Shah Alam - Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd (PKT) to initiate collaboration between the university and industry, thus creating a link between graduands of logistics and the industry.

This collaboration will focus on the sharing of technical knowledge between the two organisations, including academic staffing, consultation, research and development, seminars and conferences.

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said that a university cannot move alone to tackle future challenges.

"In this era of globalisation and interdependence, collaboration with industry is no longer an option, but a necessity. The MoU between UUM and PKT is symbolic of the cooperation that we believe will lead to joint research initiatives that generate new synergy and added academic value to both PKT and UUM in the foreseeable future," he said at the MoU signing ceremony between UUM and PKT.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of PKT Logistics Sdn Bhd, Dato' Michael Tio said that he noticed many areas where improvements can be done and that the best way to move up in the logistics value chain would be through collaboration with institutions that produce graduates with skills and experience.

"I would also like to announce that the first research and development (R & D) centre at 12 Waves situated in Batu Kawan, Penang will be set up. The R & D centre will be a shared facility where both academics and industry professionals meet for the purpose of research and data collection," he said.
