To see is to know and to know is to feel it. It’s an eye opening of working life. That’s what the site visit is all about to 146 students of School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML) who organized the site visit to Gano Excel Industries Sdn Bhd in Jitra Kedah on the 16 March 2018. They are assisted by our 2 renown Senior Lecturers in Purchasing Management & Supply Chain and Operations Management respectively, Dr Adam bin Mohd Saifudin and Dr Hidayah Abu.
The purpose of the visit is to expose the students on supply chain and manufacturing process with actual factory operations is managed to accomplish the final project assignments for this semester. The students were welcome by HR & Administration Manager for Napoh Plant, Ms Ng Jia Jia. During the tour, they were briefed about the benefits of Ganoderma and shown the Microbiological Lab and Quality Lab of the company. Two products are being produced from these labs that are the F&B and Support Food categories. Then the the students were also given the opportunity to visit the Gano Excel farm in order for them to get a clear picture of the actual manufacturing process of Ganoderma.
According by Gano staff, we are the only and first students from colleges and universities being given the opportunity to explore the Gano Farm. Indeed, it is an honour for us for being given that chance. Big thank you from us! After the factory tour, they were gathered in a hall for the Q & A session conducted by the Operation Manager, Ms Leow Sin Yee, assisted by Ms Ng Jia Jia and moderated by Dr Adam. Lots of questions were asked with new references are made to the current status of the company operations and the products. End of the sessions, Dr Adam presented both the hosts with memorable tokens as an appreciation of our visit here.
In return, the management of Gano Excel Industries Sdn Bhd too gave each student goodies as an appreciation of our visit and performance during the Q & A session. Nik Muhammad Aqil, the Project Manager of this site visit and Semester 6 Operation Management student, said that this site visit is a good opportunity to let the participants understand more about Ganoderma and health market. A Semester 6 Agribusiness student, Balqis Binti Abdul Razi expressed her happiness that she had gained a meaningful knowledge by seeing the actual operational process through this site visit. That will help her in the studies onwards in Purchasing Management and Supply Chain subject this semester. Nur Fatin Azirah, another Semester 6 student of Technology Management student was very excited about this site visit and was impressed with their meticulous operations process. An Operation Management foreign student from Nigeria and who is now in his Semester 7, Ogungbose Oluwole Omotayo, expressed his delightfulness that this site visit was the best he ever visited since coming to UUM. He commented that this company has an excellent relationship with their customers and we can learn a lot from their activities.
