Japan, Dec 10 – UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, was invited to deliver his keynote address at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Nomi, Ishikawa, yesterday morning.
The Vice-Chancellor attended JAIST after receiving an invitation from the President of JAIST, Prof. Dr. Tetsuo Asano.
Next, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak was taken on a campus tour to visit the facilities and laboratories found in JAIST namely the laboratory which houses the 320TB capacity supercomputer, a library which stores the classics consisting of collections of works from the great Leonardo Da Vinci, Galileo Galilei as well as works of Isaac Newton and Francis Bacon which serve as the source of inspiration to students to be more creative and innovative.
Then, the Vice-Chancellor was given a briefing about the philosophy of the President of JAIST entitled Intellectual Toughness and Importance of Change.
In the afternoon, the Vice-Chancellor discussed the convening of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between UUM and JAIST. The discussion was also attended by the Deputy President of JAIST, Prof. Dr. Yukari Nagai; Professor Shungo Kawanishi, the Director of the Global Communication Centre, JAIST; Prof. Dr. Yoji Koda; Prof. Dr. Michitaka Kosaka, and Prof. Dr. Asami Shikida.
During the discussion, both parties agreed to establish a long-term collaboration in aspects concerning a matching grant in the Halal industry, logistics as well as a double-degree programme.
