A courtesy call made by a delegation from the Global Communication Center, Japan Advanced Institute Science and Technology (JAIST), on the UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, paved the way for future academic collaborative efforts for both parties.

The delegation from JAIST, led by the Director/ Professor of Global Communication Center, Prof. Shungo Kawanishi, held talks with the Vice-Chancellor at the Visitors’ Lounge, yesterday.

During the discussion, both parties talked about the possibility of embarking on academic collaborative endeavours, including faculty and student mobility programmes, joint research publication between UUM and JAIST, and also the initiative that would facilitate UUM staff to pursue their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) studies or to undertake training programmes in Japan.

JAIST was established in 1990 and, at present, it has a total of 1000 students. JAIST offers advanced research and development programmes in science and technology, and it boasts several satellite campuses.

In attendance during the courtesy call were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail; the Dean the School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML), Prof. Dr. Shahimi Mohtar; the Director of the Centre for International Affairs and Cooperation (CIAC), Dr. Mohamad Farizal Rajemi, and various senior officers of UUM.
