School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML) received a working visit from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Ishikawa, Japan (JAIST), a national post-graduate and research university, on 2 February 2016. The delegation of four was led by the President of JAIST, Professor Dr. Tetsuo Asano.

The aim of this working visit was to sign the MoU between UUM and JAIST. This MoU signing ceremony was held at Dewan Sri Mersawa, EDC attended by UUM Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dato Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, STML Dean Assoc. Prof. Shahimi Mohtar, JAIST President Prof. Dr Tetsuo Asano, Advisor to the JAIST President for Global Affairs Professor Dr Shungo Kawanishi and two administrative officers from JAIST among other local staffs.

UUM Vice-Chancellor in his speech said: “UUM is proud to be working with JAIST, an institution that seeks to produce leaders who can contribute in the creation of science and technology in the future through education and research in an academic environment that is ideal. I fervently hope that with the signing of this historic MoU with JAIST, the two parties will strengthen cooperation in the fields of Human Life Design, Knowledge Management, Security and Networks, Entertainment Technology, and Energy and Environment. In addition, this MoU will also serve as a symbolic partnership which I believe will lead us towards a new initiative in the field of joint research, which ultimately will generate new synergies and give added value to both UUM and JAIST.”

The JAIST President expressed his delight for the opportunity in working with the UUM. He said: “The two sides not only develop human capital, but also exchange experience and expertise in the field of technology and research.”

Before the MoU signing ceremony, the JAIST President Prof. Dr Testsuo Asano delivered a talk at the STML seminar hall. His title of the talk was ”Managing University: Balancing Between Administration and Research Towards Effective Institutional Leadership.” This seminar was attended by academic staffs from STML and other schools/institutes.
