Biography
• Ph.D in Accountancy, The University of Memphis/UUM, 1994 - 1999
• Master of Accountancy, The University of Wollongong, NSW, 1988 -1989
• BBA in Finance, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, 1983 – 1985
• Diploma in Business Studies, MARA Institute of Technology, 1980-1983

Dr. Zakaria Abas is a Professor of Strategic Management Accounting, Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA), UUM College of Business, Universiti Utara Malaysia. He is attached at the Centre of University-Industry Collaboration as Principal Research Fellow. He has vast experience and exposure. Among others, he has served as the Special Advisor to the Honourable Minister of Higher Education from 1 October 2010 until 31 September 2012. His roles as the advisor, among others, is to give advice on formulation of policy on establishing sustainable strategic collaboration initiatives among universities, communities, and industries, in light of facilitating the successful implementation of National Higher Education Strategic Planning for the Critical Agenda Project Academia-Industry. Currently Dr. Zakaria is actively engaged in top-down policy research granted by the Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister’s Department and The Ministry of Higher Education.

Recognised for ability to build important contacts and recognize worthwhile opportunities hence increases credibility, reduces anxiety and develop trust with clients easily and boost revenues. Analytical, in depth product knowledge with ability to articulate clearly. Lead trainer and facilitator for Sales Techniques of Airlines Basics for Sales People (ABAS), a course introduced in house by Malaysia Airlines since October 2014. Previous professional experience include a 9 year tenure at Malaysia Airlines Berhad, reaching the position of Head of Corporate Business, where he was responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of revenue and marketing-driven activities for Corporate Business Malaysia and Globally which includes MICE business, Government of Malaysia and Online Travel Agents, by building and maintaining relationship with industry influencers and key strategic partners such as Tourism Boards (local and international, both state and national NTOs), Government ministries & agencies in generating incremental revenue and new business opportunities.
